From Beauty Therapy to Aviation Security

I originally qualified in Beauty Therapy, where my training included Aromatherapy, Swedish massage and Indian Head Massage.

It was during this time that I developed a real appreciation for essential oils and how fragrance can influence mood and wellbeing.

After qualifying in 2005, I began pursuing the career path I had planned. However, life had other ideas, and I eventually found myself working as an Aviation Security Officer, a world away from treatment rooms and massage oils.

What was only meant to be temporary turned into 15 years of long shifts, early mornings and night duties, exposing me to the harsher realities of the world and teaching me quickly about responsibility and resilience, ultimately shaping my perspective on life.

It was during this time that I met my fiancé, Ed, and built a life filled with experiences I would never change. But creatively, something was always waiting in the background.

The Ramekins That Started It All

In 2019, while clearing out the garage, I came across a box of glass ramekins.

I’ve always loved DIY, craft and making things by hand, and I hate waste. Instead of throwing them away, I decided to turn them into something useful.

Candles felt like the perfect idea.

Using the knowledge I had gained during my aromatherapy training, I began experimenting with incorporating essential oils into the wax. What started as a small creative project quickly became something more.

I gifted the candles to friends and family, and their reaction was overwhelming. They weren’t just polite compliments, people genuinely loved them.

That was the spark.

Taking the Leap During the Pandemic

During furlough in the pandemic, I finally had the time to think properly.

After 15 years in aviation security, I knew I wanted a change. I decided to take voluntary severance, allowing me to build something of my own. Soon after, Ed followed.

What began as a small creative outlet started to grow into a real brand.

A Necessary Reset

In the early stages, I experimented a lot. I created too many fragrance blends and drifted slightly away from the true “aromatherapy” side of what I wanted the brand to represent.

It became clear that if I was going to take this seriously, I needed to refine and focus.

In 2021, I properly rebranded and realigned the business to what Lib’s Aromatherapy stands for today:

Pure, natural and simple aromatherapy for the mind, body and home.

What began with upcycled ramekins has grown into a brand with loyal, repeat customers and therapists who value quality, authenticity and natural fragrance.
